BIG TITS ZOMBIE 3D

Directed by: Takao Nakano

Starring: Saori Ando, Io Aikawa, Sola Aoi, Risa Kasumi

Synopsis:

Recently returned to Japan from a stint in Mexico, exotic dancer Lena Jodo (Aoi) gets what she hopes will be a temporary gig dancing at a run-down hot springs resort in a deserted suburban town. Her fellow strippers – Ginko (Kasumi), Maria (Sakuri), Nene (Tamayo) and Dana (Io Aikawa) – seem to spend most of their downtime sitting around bitching at each other, until one afternoon, after discovering a hidden door in their dressing room, they decide to break the monotony by venturing into the club’s basement. There, they unearth a mysterious well and, nearby, a dusty volume that Maria declares is a rare copy of the Book of the Dead.

Review:

Big Tits Zombie – 3D manages to live up to the internet hype and dreadfully lurid trailer through shear force of will. This film shall not be denied it’s audience. Featuring a bunch of cute girls, a great sense of humour and some of the most ridiculous special fx seen for a while, BTZ kicks butt.

What else needs to be said? Not a lot really. The humour works really well, especially seeing Lena’s heavy drinking leading her into some really degrading situations the morning after. There are a number of in-jokes concerning various costumes worn by both the dancers and the zombies. If you are a fan of DTV J-horror and samurai movies you’ll pick up on some of them for sure.

The sets are about as basic as can be – on a par with 70’s era Dr Who – but you’ll hardly notice as there is always a lot going on to take your mind off it. The plot is simple and you’ll hardly need to take in the subtitles to follow what’s going on.

The gore fx in Big Tits Zombie 3D are over-the-top ridiculous but at the same time, blatantly fake, as if the film-makers were making a comment on recent gore-fests such as Tokyo Gore Police or Hard Revenge Milly. The prosthetics are toy-store bought fake hands etc – you almost expect to see a price-tag on them. But they are kept in shot for the minimum time so again you don’t really dwell on it too much. There’s one sequence which depending on your sensibilities you may find – objective? Disturbing? The BBFC has always been harsh on scenes which cross the boundaries of sex and violence, so it was surprising to see two topless women being sprayed/hosed down in blood...

But what of the 3D? Well, don’t expect Avatar levels of quality here, and not all the film is presented in the format (a helpful sign and count-down pops up, and occasionally one of the background characters will pop on their 3D glasses too!). Most of the 3D sequences work really well, but there were a couple of scenes in 2D which I wished had been presented in the 3D format. The best sequence involves a couple of tentacles and an elongated tongue. I’ll say no more.

Verdict:

BTZ is just a fun time to be had. Get the beers in and your mates round, slap on the 3D spex and enjoy.

7 out of 10 (MikeOutWest)
