Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim - his Giant Robots vs Giant Monsters movie - is heading to UK cinemas on July 12th. Previous trailers have given an idea of the epic scope of the film, but this latest trailer is much better - the action is less choppily put together, there are clearer shots of the monsters and oh hey, there's Ron Perlman! Finally I'm getting excited about this movie. Studiocanal, with the endorsement of director Robin Hardy, have launched a world-wide public appeal to locate original film materials relating to legendary horror classic ‘The Wicker Man’, originally released in 1973, in celebration of the cult film's 40th anniversary. The now widely lauded film was released with minimal promotion in 1973 as second feature of a double bill with Don’t Look Now. The version exhibited to audiences was significantly shorter than director Robin Hardy's original vision. In what has now become an apocryphal episode in British film history, the negatives disappeared from storage at Shepperton Studios, were then allegedly used as landfill in the construction of the nearby M4 motorway, and are considered lost forever. A special Facebook page has been created to serve as a forum for the search to continue. It's all over. The whirlwind that is working with Jen and Sylvia Soska - aka the Twisted Twins - has come to an end. The UK tour of American Mary is over and the DVD and Blu-ray is out now to buy. Except, if our joy at working with the Soskas is anything to go by, it's certainly not all over. The American Mary UK tour was a massive success and sold out in every city it went to - selling out London twice! The Soskas made new fans in every city they went to, while their dedicated fans followed them across the country. Everyone stayed seated for each of the Q&As, leaving before Jen and Sylvia had finished speaking just wasn't considered. Likewise, Jen and Sylvia made time for every last fan, photo and autograph, no matter how tired they were. Their enthusiasm for their film and its reception was infectious and everyone they met caught the American Mary bug! Already massively supported by Eli Roth, Jen and Sylvia Soska are names you're going to see writ large in years to come. And as far as the UK is concerned, they came, they saw, they conquered. It's interesting that the makers of The Hurt Locker are involved in two separate movies about the assault on Bin Laden's compound. Director Katherine Brigelow's Zero Dark Thirty is due out next year; meanwhile Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier is involved in Code Name Geronimo. Starring Cam Gigandet, Freddy Rodrigues and William Fichtner and directed by John Stockwell (who made the excellent Cat Run), this looks like a very compelling account of one of the most infamous missions in US military history. The film will get a limited cinema release on 14th December, and is released in the UK on DVD and Blu Ray on 24th December. Check out the trailer below:
